FROM “OLIVE TO” OIL: AN OLIVE TREE AS A FRIEND
The educational visit will allow children to learn about and experience the various stages of work in the oil mill: from harvesting olives to the process of crushing and cold extraction of oil, up to the tasting of the final product. The Mezzane Oil Mill presents a more traditional type of processing with ancient stone mills, while the Redoro Oil Mill in Grezzana offers more advanced and complete technology, with bottling and packaging cycles. Different visit modalities are available depending on age groups: for kindergarten and primary school classes, the naturalistic and experimental aspects will be emphasized. For middle and high school students, topics related to culture and rediscovery of typical Veronese products will be explored in depth, with special attention to extraction and transformation technology. We welcome schools with cultural exchange projects from abroad at the Grezzana oil mill, even if they are in other periods of the school year; we can use an educational video for explanation.
For families, in addition to the visit and tasting of products in our two oil mills, it is possible to join the “initiative called ‘the children’s field’ (www.ilcampodeibimbi.it). This initiative aims to be an opportunity to know and follow the” olive tree during all stages of growth, pruning, flowering, and harvesting that take place during the “year until the production of new oil. The” olive tree will thus become a new friend for children and a beginning of food education for families.
